Tabanan is a district of Bali, which has not yet been visited by the majority of tourists
The Tabanan district is located northwest of Canggu and Seminyak, which are really favoured by tourists. It occupies a large area extending from the ocean coast inland, into the mountains. Numerous shops and cafes, which make the streets of Bali so similar to each other regardless of the district, have not yet reached here.
Tabanan has a rich history, this is one of the ancient Balinese regencies. The traditional measured way of life is still preserved here, including rice cultivation, temple ceremonies and dances, and cockfighting too. Balinese history and culture here are closely intertwined with modernity. This special authentic atmosphere is exactly why Tabanan is worth visiting.
As yet untouched nature, endless rice fields, small traditional villages are only 30-40 minutes drive from trendy restaurants of the district of Canggu. Here you can ride a bike, walk along endless beaches of soft black sand at sunset and enjoy the solitude.
Unlike tourist districts, there are some really amazing oceanfront villas for rent here. Swimming in the ocean is not always possible due to the waves, but the pool at a villa overlooking a deserted beach and the surf washing on shore is a worthy alternative.
The beaches in Tabanan are long and wide enough, with fine black volcanic sand, which sparkles in the sun and creates Martian landscapes, especially where rocks and stones are found.
Pasut Beach is one of the most popular in Tabanan, people come here for a photo shoot or just to take a walk at sunset. On one side of the district you can see a palm grove, while on the other side there is special Balinese romance. On the outskirts of Pasut Beach you can also find the small secret waterfall of Timan Agung and picturesque cliffs.
If you like surfing, Kedungu Beach is the best place in Tabanan. This is a spot for average level surfers, not far from which you can rent a board from local cafes called warungs. Or you can just buy a beer or a coconut from the locals on the beach and admire surfers conquering the waves.
Perhaps the most beautiful place on the beaches of Tabanan is Tanah Lot Temple, one of the five temples on the island which, according to the legend, guard its people from the spirits of the ocean. You can get close to it only during low tide and the rest of the time you can take a walk around the temple complex with gorgeous ocean views. The priests will be happy to tell you about the history and legends of this place. For example, there are holy snakes, which live in the holes in the cliffs by the ocean, they never bite anybody and they protect the temple from evil.

Choosing a district and renting a villa in Bali is not easy due to the large number of places with their pros and cons. However, if you want a luxury villa with a beach access in a quiet green area, then Tabanan is worth attention.
